Keep Your Employees Safe With a Business Disaster Plan

business.jpgPlan To Stay In Business by protecting your employees. Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. It can force you and your employees to evacuate your place of business or confine everyone to the premises. What would your employees do if basic services–water, gas, electricity or telephones–were cut off? Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone right away. Therefore, the best way to make your business and employees are safe is to be prepared before disaster strikes.

The continuity of your business is in the hands of you and your employees. Unless they survive, the liklihood of your business survival will be threatened. The best way is to be prepared ahead of time.

Many small business owners aren’t sure what they need to consider in putting together a disaster plan. The Institute for Business and Home Safety has a comprehensive checklist on it’s web site www.disastersafety.org.

Obviously, there’s a lot more that goes into a comprehensive disaster plan, such as planning for an evacuation, or stocking up with necessities in case you have to remain on the premises. Disaster Recovery Supply can assist in getting you started. Always remember…..it’s better to be five years early than five minutes too late!

Cash Is King! Are We Taking Today’s Electronic Era For Granted?

money.jpgYes, we live in the electronic age. From the time we wake up until we go to bed, almost every move we make involves electricity and electronics. We get up in the morning to a nice warm house, turn on the lights and coffee maker. We get the morning paper which was just printed a few hours ago. Then we’re off to a nice warm shower, blow our hair dry and off into the world for the day. If we need gas for our vehicle, a stop at the pumps with our credit card. If we stop at the store or a restaurant, we might use another credit card. A payday might mean a stop at our bank for a deposit. At the start of the week, or any day for that matter, we start writing checks to pay our bills. And it goes on and on. (Disaster Recovery Supply is starting to think ahead).

Now look at this brief scenario which happened recently. Starbucks is based in Seattle, WA which experienced a brief earthquake. This temporarily disrupted their computer server. All Starbuck locations are tied in directly to this main server and could not sell a cup of coffee anywhere because they could not take credit cards or cash because the registers wouldn’t open.

Now picture this on a global basis. Our world is surrounded by thousands of communication satellites which (unfortunately) govern our world. What “if” something disrupted their functions like sunspots, an errant meteor, some type of terror activity, etc. What “if” our communication connection were shut down without a remedy.

Now imagine waking up in the morning. The lights won’t go on. Coffee Maker won’t work. Refrigerator contents are spoiling. A cold shower. Can’t get gas because pumps won’t run. Can’t use a credit card anywhere because ATM’s, banks, stores are helpless without electricity which rely on electronics to operate. Stores may have supplies for a while, but won’t sell them to you unless you have cold cash. And you will need to stock up all you can before the next guy gets it because the store can’t restock as trucks won’t operate. And you won’t be able to call anybody because phones won’t work. No text messages!!

Credit cards and checks will be of no use and cash will be king. Forget about the value of our dollar compared with the Euro. The stock market will be gone! Cash will be cash…..no matter! With cash, you may be able to do all kinds of things you never thought of previously. You might be wise to start hoarding cash, and not in a safe deposit box. Without electricity, you won’t be able to get at it. Find a good and safe hiding place and keep it a secret. And make sure you have a bicycle!

Again, it’s always best to be prepared ahead of time for any type of event. Keep several disaster kits handy at all times for any kind of emergency. Remember, it’s best to be five years early than five minutes too late!

Be Prepared For Bad Hurricane Season Forecasted

hurricane.jpgAs they say. it’s better to be fore-armed than fore-warned. And nothing is further from the truth regarding being prepared in advance than suddenly be warned to evacuate in an emergency. Even if you have a day or two to get emergency supplies, it will cost you more and you may not get all you need for extended time away from your home. Too many people do not prepare for contingencies because they think it won’t happen to them. Just because the 2003-05 hurricane seasons saw a break in hurricane frequency, there’s no reason to think that break will continue. And many disasters happen when you least expect them.

Living in coastal regions means having a plan for each and every hurricane season. Planning and preparation are the key to storm survival. Disaster Recovery Supply can assist you with information and requirements. PREPARE NOW!!!

Hurricanes and Tornadoes Continue to Plague the Country

atlanta.jpgAre we getting more and more of these disasterous storms now? Or are we just hearing about them with increased news coverage. Last week, the mid-Atlantic States and yesterday the mid-west. Seems every day we hear about another storm and people either being evacuated or displaced from their homes. And more than likely, no one will have any emergency plans or supplies in place. Why? Because most people think it can’t happen to them. So why spend money on a contingency item for something you may never need. So what is your life worth? Or any else’s for that matter. It doesn’t matter where you live or what part of the country or world. Things happen when you least expect it.
